It uses at the buttom a regular sealed or ported box and the driver as direct radiator but they also put the speaker on the spikes and made the bottom looks like it is a horn output. Also at this larger model
On the smalle...

For my ears, the piano is rich in harmonics that change with playing volume BUT the only way to get a louder note is with the hammer striking the strings more powerfully which always is coupled to a louder "articulation". Violins and wind instruments...
Actually a Tapped Horn would be bigger than a sealed enclosure, here is one of my first TH tests. The sound is very different than the sound coming form a Sealed encolsure. My first impression was that the bass was gone! There...

Hi Mats,I am not using 4 on each side. I will be using two on each side. Until now I always liked sealed enclosures. However Tad drivers are more suited to ported configurations. If you do not push them to go too low and have a reasonable fs point, t...
Roman, could you (or enybody ) elaborate a little bit on JBL L8 and its application ? Not so much sensible info on the net besides that its a fullrange usefull in 40Hz-8kHz.
I do not know, how can I elaborate if I never ...
In any case, you bought an expensive pair of Fostex (F120A) drivers, never listened to them, had them modified with, what could be considered a controversial technique. You then put them in a simple box without a back, drove...

I was thinking about it. The low QTS of the driver does make
is a good candidate for ported enclosure. It hypothetically it might be possible
to experiment with it but it might be gone only after I build the enclosure as
it is impossible to predic...

The bass units meant for ported loading of cause, I might measure the Fs later on but I am not sure that I would need it. I don’t have any of T/S characteristics for my bass drivers. The driver behave as I needed them in prototype version and it is a...

I have also used the Eton drivers in a MTM configuration and I very much enjoyed the sound I was able to get out of these for several years until I got the EdgarHorn speakers. Actually, I still have the dynamic speakers set up in the same room, very...

Hi, I buillt the amp based on your circuit with the exception of the bias scheme. Currently I have CRCRC bias for the ouput valve and Lithium battery grid bias for the driver. I use the amps to drive low efficiency 2 way ported boxes and vintage Tann...

Hello again kitty...Analogous to the lack of perfect "audiomoron" transparency of something like an L1 or tannoys or koetsus, I can see the general direction of your thinking regarding the "oops" nature of developing a musical transducer in room. The ...

I think correct positioning the watt puppy and maxx model in room is not easy and each time i listened to them i sensed a bloated sound, I guessed bloated sound refer to acoustics. i know these model drivers are not fast but i guessed in a good room ...

I too want a monitor speaker to play with, especially for amplifier experimentation.I put another 4" Fostex in a sealed "box" (globe actually) and crossed it over at 150hz to one SS 25w/8565 on the side. Wishful thinking? -Yes.About 88-90dB sensitive...

OK, here are some notes. I do not generalize them, juts my
notes from my listening and my current conclusions.
All processors are different. Ridiculous but fact. I have 4
of them and they all with the same reverb parameters sound different. I d...

The Aura
1808 had free air resonance at 24Hz and required enormous sealed
enclosure of 14-16 cu feet. Wilson Audio used the Aura 1808 in their
unfortunately-ported XS subwoofers and soaked from their relatively
small enclosure an extra 19dB...

I actually read the review carefully.
My initials sentiments were very accurate. Knowing the Vladimir’s reaction to those thighs I might presume that he also feels that this level of “intelligent writing about audio” is no more intellectu...

Thanks for this one Romy, very interesting...it sorta ties together several things that I have been thinking about lately. I guess I am lucky that the Bass Cannons can be run off 9w from the DSET bottom channel and from memory I get about 115dB at 1...

Thanks, LBJ
It is useful. I had also an idea to have a port mounted on removable plate in order to have the port side changed. I also, very much inclined for the yellow version, even my reasons are very none objective and I based my superstitions on...

Actually is not mystery but juts economics. BTW, the large Wilsons are I believe are not juts ported but so called fourth order design. With a sealed enclosure of the identical size the Grand Slam / Alexandria would go in Stereophile category of spea...

Actually the popular stiff Denons (103, 103R) with compliance of 5 need no less the 35g of effective mass, but even this mass will not help them. The Shelter has a “normal” compliance, I do not remember how much exactly but I think that it is somewhe...

I have a second system in the kitchen. The speaker is a small Monitor Audio 2way which I picked up over 10 years ago for $500/pair (new). They are ported in the rear and hang from the ceiling in front of the brick wall, powered by chip amps.
